". . . are the luckiest people in the world." How about that for a song from the past? "People" is a song composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Bob Merrill for the 1964 Broadway musical Funny Girl starring Barbra Streisand, according to Wikipedia. And while many times we like to be alone, like to be independent, like to think we have it all together by ourselves, there are times in our lives when we really need people to walk with us, to advise us, and to give us a different perspective on our situations.
Even though I am no longer a caregiver to my husband, I still think back on those many years when I was, and I still offer thanks to God for the many people who helped me stay sane during the difficult times.
- For the medical professionals who answered my seemingly endless questions.
- For the Parkinson's Support Group we were part of. We could talk about anything with them without judgment.
- For our friends who prayed for us and encouraged us through text, calls, and gifts.
- For our family who were with us through it all. They were there when we needed them, but they didn't hover or smother. They were beside us to give advice without telling us what to do, and that was invaluable.
And now, after those caregiving days, the same is still true. I am thankful I am not alone. Instead, I have medical professionals, a support group of friends, and an amazing and loving family who are there when I need and ask. I am truly blessed, as are you. But we do need to ask for help sometimes, and when it is offered, we need to accept it.
Through it all, I have faith in God. My belief is that God is with me, no matter what. God has a plan for me, and God makes no mistakes. So, if I find myself in a difficult situation, God has already provided for me in that situation, and I can trust that He will be with me until it is over. I hold on to that faith, and it gives me a reason for hope and for peace, no matter what happens.
My prayer for you today is that God will be close to you as well and that His presence will give you hope and peace. Thank you for reading and commenting. Have a great week ahead.
