"This path is so rocky, it's so rough! Why is this so tough?" he yelled out as night time came. Every evening he would step to the side of the path he was on, set his tent up and try to go to sleep. Yet each night He would toss and turn. When the sun came up, it was all he could do to get up without raising a fuss. He would pack everything he had, then start on the rough path he was on once again. Like many times before he would eventually yell out, "Why is this so tough?" This time it would be different, something happened when he yelled. He heard a voice and it dropped him to his knees in that moment of fussing.
With his head held down and his knees on the ground, he heard a voice say. "Child, many times I reached down and smoothed your path but instead of taking it, you took your own path. You fought me so much, but I knew one day you will learn to not stray down the side paths. Now look ahead of you, look down the path. Yes, there are mountain and valleys, but if you let Me, I will help you through the rough parts. You see My child, if you never had the valleys, the mountains would not look as good. That's why I don't reach down and smooth your path every time it gets rough."
"Now get up, pack your things, stand tall and get back on the path, the one that is between you and Myself. I will guide you, love you, show you mercy and grace, but you also must also do something to get down the path. Don't turn to the right or left, stay straight on the narrow path, because when you do, one day you will see what it was all about. It will bring you closer to Me, which is what I want most, for us to become one. The path ahead, it has its rocks and boulders, and there will be times that you may fall, but I will be there to catch you in My hands. To pick you up and set you back on your path." The man stood up, packed his bag, and started once again down the narrow path. He knew as long as he kept his eyes on God, he could get through anything because he felt the presence of the Master's hands on him. In time his tests became his testimony and his mess became his message.
"Blessed are those who remain steadfast under trial, for when they have stood the test they will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love Him." (James 1:12).
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6).
