The Fragrance of Christ
"Your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia," said David1, as if the very vestments of the Savior could be no more sweetened than by His person, and he could not but love them. Indeed, there is not a spot where His hallowed foot has stepped. Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ,
and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved
and among those who are perishing.
To the one we are the aroma of death leading to (their) death,
and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for
these things?

In this passage, the apostle Paul says that it may happen we discern when meeting someone for the first time that we repel them for no understandable reason. They may detect the spiritual scent of Christ in us as the scent of their spiritual death.

Conversely, suppose that person is at once drawn to us upon first acquaintance. In that case, it may be the same spiritual scent of Christ, but to them, it is the scent of life.

Has this ever occurred to you as a possibility in your own life?
I know it has on some occasions in mine.
Of course, a cheery greeting and warm smile from us is warranted in either case.
