Dear Ella
I've been thinking a lot about honesty and our capacity to cope with the truth since your last batch of photos. It was the one of the alligator cooking on the spit that got me going. Why do I find that so offensive?
It's not as if I am a vegetarian. But in our world things are so often divorced from from their beginnings that it is easy to pretend they are not connected. Like my pogo-ing bantam chickens with their own distinct personalities and the creature dissected in my tikka masala.
We seem to be constantly air brushing the truth. Politicial correctness gone mad.
This photo forces me to re-establish the connection between my actions and their consequences. And it's not a comfortable feeling.
I came face to face with a seal pup yesterday. You'll be pleased to know I had no desire to eat it. I just wanted to help. And it looked a lot prettier alive than the alligator on the spit. May be a bit more connectedness would make us all better people.
Lots of love
Fiona
