We had an encounter the other day on our way back from a trip that was blessed and given to us by awesome friends. On the last part of the trip, we were looking for a place to eat. We have been eating healthier for a good while now, so eating at fast food places is something we no longer do. Pat looked and looked, trying to find a place.
She finally found a place, but it was like 2½ miles from the interstate. I wasn't really wanting to get off the interstate that far. So, Pat searched a little more and she mostly found places that either were not open yet or it was a place where we did not want to eat. The thing was Pat kept wanting to go to the one place, so we drove the 2½ miles.
We go in, find a table, and get our food. We then sit down and are eating and that's when the encounter happened. A couple sitting behind Pat asked a couple to my right if she knew who was singing a song playing. She replied no, she never listened to that kind of music. She has always listened to gospel. That started a conversation between us and the second couple. By the time we finished our meal we had talked a lot about God, exchanged numbers and we blessed them with a cross and books.
It wasn't by chance, God kept putting it in Pats spirit to go to the one place. There is a reason for everything and there was a reason for that encounter. The woman had lost her sister the day before that day. Her and her husband came to the restaurant to get away for a bit. They were an awesome couple, and the fellowship was great. She so appreciated the cross and books. I think it also gave her comfort. When we give people a cross or book, there is no catch involved. We usually tell them; God wants you to know He loves you and is thinking about you. We also ask if there is something we can pray about for them.
There are no chance encounters, there are preordained encounters, God encounters. God directed, God led and God feed encounters. In those encounters you may only know them for a moment, hours, weeks, months or years. He has a reason for everything. God still speaks and guides us if we are willing to listen.
The funny thing is that I know we have been there before, but Pat does not remember every going there. Now I am wondering if years ago that it was a dream or vision that I had of going to the place. I know without doubt we have been there before. It was exactly where we went and unless you turn to the right when leaving it's hard to get out of the place.
"A man's mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], but the Lord directs his steps and establishes them." (Proverbs 16:9).
