Have you ever been jealous of someone?
READ TOGETHER
God rescued his people, the Hebrews, from slavery in Egypt, brought them through the Red Sea, guided them across the wilderness and finally they made it to Mount Sinai. At Mount Sinai God will make a covenant with his people. When a covenant in made between a king and his people, the king will ask the people to obey certain rules. And so, on Mount Sinai, God gave his people a set of rules called the Ten Commandments. Have you ever heard of the Ten Commandments?
But the Ten Commandments are more than just rules. They actually teach us who God is and what he's like. Listen to how the Ten Commandments start. Can you can hear what God is like:
Exodus 20:1-5. And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 "I am the Lord your God... 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. 4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any [idol] of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I...am a jealous God.
God describes himself as jealous. But God isn't jealous the same way we are. God isn't jealous because he wants to be like us; he's jealous because he wants us to worship him. God is jealous for us because he loves us, and he knows that we need him. That's why he gave us the Ten Commandments to teach us to worship him and not our idols. An idol is anything that we love or worship instead of God. But remember, God is jealous. He wants us to love him the most. Why? Because, like we said, he knows that loving him is what is best for us, because he is the only one that will never let us down.
How do we know that God will never let us down? How do we know that he deserves our love and worship? Because he sent his son, Jesus, to die for us on the cross. And if God would do that for us, then he deserves all our worship.
Because of Jesus I know that God is jealous for me.
With Jesus I don't have to be jealous of others because i know God loves me.

PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, thank you for keeping all God's commandments for me because you love me. Help me to not be jealous of others anymore. Amen.
