It's got to be better than 2022, hasn't it? Didn't we say that last year?
Anyway, it'll be what it is and we'll make the most of it because that's what we do.
I could do one of those 'end of the year' round ups but I really don't think there's much I want to remember about about 2022. Wars, pandemic, multiple prime minister, people having to make the choice between heating or eating, strikes...the list goes on.
I won't be making any resolutions either, what a great way of starting the year, by setting yourself up to fail.
What I will be doing is taking each day as it comes and dealing wit it the best way I can.
Anyway, want to hear about our Christmas? Course you do!!!
It started on 23rd December when I woke up to flashing lights and smoke. I'd like to say it was all in my head and therefore my imagination but not so. It was all in my head but I definitely wasn't imagining it. Migraine? Nope.
Hold on. Flashing lights, vision disturbance? Giant floaters obstructing my view? Oh no. This could be a detached retina. Shitshitshitshit.
The following morning I walked down to our local optician and asked for an emergency appointment. The walk down was interesting. The optician was actually brilliant. After a multitude of tests they performed there and then they told me that it wasn't a detached retina it was just 'posterior vitreous detachment', or to put it another way, I'm old and knackered. Apparently, when you're old and knackered the jelly in your eye becomes more liquid and that can cause you to see flashes of light and an increase in floaters. It's not dangerous but it is inconvenient until your brain learns to compensate for it and you don't notice it any more.
PHEW!!!!! I've never been more relieved to be old and knackered. I danced home to my own light show to get on with Christmas.
Christmas Day was a hoot. The Devon family came for the day and we ate, drank and laughed our way to evening when they all went home and we collapsed on the sofa with a sherry and a good film.
The day after Boxing Day we set off on a road trip up to Lancashire to see the rest of the family. Now when I say we set off, that is exactly what I meant. We didn't get very far. After five hours we had only got as far as Bristol. For those who don't know that should take less than two hours. What to do? The traffic wasn't showing any signs of easing se we decided to stay at a Days Inn at the motorway services. £36 for the night and £15 for the dog. That'll do. Gratefully we made our way to our room and collapsed on the bed. The poor dog was in a state of stress and didn't know what to do with himself so he yipped and circled and whined.
As for me, being the sole driver now I was exhausted from trying to work out if the lights I was seeing were actual lights from cars behind or the result of me being old and knackered. In any case I was absolutely knackered after five hours of that so I was very grateful for a break. We set off again at one in the morning and eventually arrived at our destination and 04.30am. Well worth it because the roads were a whole lot quieter. Mind you, who knew that morons are still on the road at that time of day? Who drives up the middle lane of an empty motorway and makes other drivers cross two lanes to overtake you? That wasn't a trick question. Lots of people, apparently. I may have been a little less than ladylike in my opinion of said motorists.
Two days of food, family, friends and generally catching up on three years worth of visiting in one trip kept us busy. I had secretly arranged for two of hubby's friends to drop by. Ha! Got him a good one! Well, two, as they came separately. I. was pleased I'd managed to pull that off. Dear Daughter's best friend was visiting from China while we were there so she was delighted to meet up with him. It was all in all a very successful trip to the frozen north. It was bloody cold as well. Or maybe we are just softie southerners now?
We set off home early evening to try and miss the traffic again. The further south we got, the quieter it got and we arrived home at about 12.30 am. We spent yesterday recovering so NYE was a bit of a wash out to be honest. Not that I've ever been a big fan of NYE but that's a whole different story.
Anyway, here are some of our photos from the entire Christmas period 2022. I hope you enjoy them. Especially the ones of a gift I received from dear daughter. She had taken photos of hound, drawn her version of them and had them printed in a book. I laughed till I cried when I saw it.
