Do you sacrifice like Esther? Do you love like Ruth? Do you serve like Martha? Do you pray like Hannah? Do you believe like Mary or do you dance like Miriam?
Sacrifice like Esther – Sacrifice means giving to the Lord whatever He requires of us. It could be our time, our possessions, our other things, to further His work. The Lord commanded, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness" (Matthew 6:33).
Love like Ruth- Love that gives first and expects nothing in return. "Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious; love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. It does not rejoice at injustice but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening]." (1 Corinthians 13:4–7).
Serve like Martha – To be a faithful servant, according to the Bible, is to be a devoted and helpful follower and to be humble before God. To be ready to act as God nudges and inspires us, to help meet the needs of other people, and to remember that it is not about money or reward. "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. (Colossians 3:23).
Pray like Hannah – Hannah prayed fervently in faith, and she had faith that her prayers were heard. "My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God." (1 Samuel 2:1-2).
Believe like Mary – She had complete faith in God. She trusted that He would do what He said He would do. Mary did not have a big ego but had full faith and confidence in God's guidance over her life, even when circumstances seemed unbelievable. Mary can teach us a lot about faith and humility. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Dance like Miriam - She was not embarrassed to dance before the Lord. "Miriam took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing. Miriam sang to them: Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted." (Exodus 15:20-21).
