THINK TOGETHER

Do you know what the word "prejudice" means?

READ TOGETHER

Prejudice is favoritism. Prejudice means you treat people better or worse based on how they look or where they're from. Have you ever seen somebody be prejudiced? Have you ever seen somebody be treated poorly just because of how they looked, or the color of their skin, or because of their clothes or where they lived?

There are all kinds of ways to be prejudiced and God hates them all. Jesus came to Earth to make sure that we could all be kind to each other and love each other as brothers and sisters in the great big human family. And even more so if we are part of the great big Christian family.

That is why Paul says these words to Philemon:

Philemon 15-16. 15 For this perhaps is why he [Onesimus] was parted from you [Philemon] for a while, that you might have him back forever, 16 no longer as a bondservant but more than a bondservant, as a beloved brother—especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

Remember, Philemon was the master and Onesimus was his slave. That means it would be very tempting for Philemon to be prejudiced against Onesimus. Slaves were seen as worse people with very little value. But Paul tells Philemon to treat Onesimus as a "brother," or as an equal.

No more prejudice!

Do you treat others as equal to you? Are you kind to everyone? Even people who are different from you?

Remember, Jesus treats us all the same. He died for everyone. He offers salvation and Heaven to anyone who would believe in him. God is never prejudiced. He never shows favoritism. And neither should we.

Because of Jesus God loves us all the same.

With Jesus we can treat everyone the same too.

DO SOMETHING TOGETHER

Watch Remember the Titans together. This is a great story of coming together in unity and brotherhood.

PRAY TOGETHER

Jesus,

You have received us as your brothers and sisters. Help us to do the same for others today.

Amen.
