I've detailed My Top Five Celebrity Encounters and Near Misses before - those times, when due to my being a member of North Carolina's statewide public television network, I met (or almost met) some of the folks seen on the small screen fare we've broadcast. But there have been times when I have had these celebrity encounters outside of work, when I sought out the experience due to my PBS fandom.
These encounters, these fan moments, can be as simple as attending an event where the celebrity is speaking or performing. They might be an appearance at a convention or a chance encounter. But they all are memorable moments that would have meant nothing or perhaps never even transpired had I not had that initial PBS connection.
So here they are: MY TOP FIVE FAN MOMENTS.
5) FELICITY KENDAL. Whether you know her from ROSEMARY & THYME or GOOD NEIGHBORS (UK Title: THE GOOD LIFE), Felicity Kendal is a performer whose decades-long career has spanned film, television and stage. I was a fan from the first moment I saw her on my screen and jumped at the chance to see her in a London play called Hidden Laughter in 1990. I had a seat in the second row and could scarcely believe I was even in the same room with her.
