THINK TOGETHER
Do you know what a demon is? What do you know about them?
READ TOGETHER
The Bible tells us that we have an enemy that hates us very much. His name is Satan. And along with Satan there are demons that also hate us. Satan and the demons are angels that rebelled against God. Now they hate God and they hate everyone who loves God. Together, Satan and the demons want us to stop trusting God and only trust ourselves.
The Bible also tells us that sometimes, back when Jesus lived, a demon would get inside of a person and make their life very miserable. So Jesus, being full of love and compassion would go around making demons leave from inside of people. This was called "casting out demons."
One time when Jesus was casting out demons he stopped and taught us all a very important lesson on how people are changed by God. You see it's not enough for the bad demon to be removed from a person's life. Something, or someone, more powerful has to take its place. Listen to how Jesus explains it here in Luke's gospel.
Luke 11:24-26. 24 "When the unclean spirit [the demon] has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and finding none it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' 25 And when it comes, it finds the house swept and put in order. 26 Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there. And the last state of that person is worse than the first."
There is an important lesson for us to learn from Jesus' story. Jesus told the people that when you kick a strong bad guy out of your house, you have to invite an even stronger good guy to move in to your house to make sure that the bad guy doesn't come back.
Luke 11:22. when one stronger...overcomes him [the bad guy], he takes away his armor in which he trusted...
Jesus is our even stronger good guy. He lives in our hearts. He keeps Satan and all his bad guys away from our heart. What does that mean for us today? What is the lesson we should learn? We need to learn to trust Jesus more and more so that Satan can't trick us into thinking that God is bad, or unkind, or that he doesn't love us, or hasn't forgiven us. We need to learn to constantly look to Jesus as the proof of God's kindness and protection in our life. That way we won't be tricked by Satan into thinking that God is bad instead of good.
Does Jesus live in your heart? Keep trusting him. He is the strongest of all. He will keep you safe forever.
Because of Jesus we can never be harmed by Satan and his demon bad guys.
With Jesus we can always trust his love for us and protection over us.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Here's a good song to help us replace fear with Jesus.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus,
You are the strongest of all and you live in my heart. Keep Satan and his lies away from my heart.
Amen.
