Before the week long break in court began, the last couple of days during the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial were pretty rough to say the least. I say "rough" not because things seem to be going bad for Johnny, but rough because we've had to sit through some terrible acting on Ms. Heard's part. Some of the worst - if not THE WORST - that anybody has EVER seen! She's clearly trying to paint a terrible picture of Mr. Depp, but failing miserably at every attempt. Nobody believes her - we can all see straight through her lies - and she's making a total fool of herself in front of the entire world.
In all the hours in which she's testified thus far, not a single tear has been shed, nor has anything that's come from her lips been believable. All of her testifying has been nothing but lies and cringe; some people have gone so far as to say, she should get this year's "Razzie Award" and I agree! For those who don't know, the Golden Rasberry Award (Razzie) is the direct opposite of the the Oscars/Academy Award. In essence, it's the award achieved for the worst performances and films of the year!
What's sad, is that Amber Heard thinks this is all some joke. I never knew somebody to be so blinded by evil and psychological issues, that they'd go to these great of depths to spin all the lies and false stories that she has. She's sat and spewn poison like a viper, but she's not hurting anyone but herself in all this garbage. In fact, she's digging her hole a whole lot deeper!
Domestic violence and abuse of any kind isn't funny. Ms. Heard's hurting all the true survivors that've suffered from these terrible and horrendous acts. Her actions are very narcassistic and all an act - this alone proves that she's the abuser and not Johnny. Ever since their divorce, Amber's atrocious allegations, her op-ed in 2018, and another trial a short time ago, she's done nothing but speak such evil and tarnish Mr. Depp's name and reputation.
Johnny has lost many roles and acting opportunities in this period of time, including what he's most known for in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise - Captain Jack Sparrow. On top of this, WB Pictures took him out of the third Fantastic Beasts film and recasted the character he portrayed, even after he appeared in the first two! Absolutely ridiculous!
I don't know about you, but my heart is torn and broken for what Mr. Depp has been going through! I've shed many tears as I've felt his hurt and pain, and I've lifted many prayers to the Lord to comfort Johnny and to work/intercede on his behalf! The whole world has seen alot of the amazing works of art that Johnny Depp has done, and we've also seen the kind, caring, and loving man that he is too! We all love and support you Johnny!
Side note: I don't wanna sound like I'm inherently degrading Amber Heard - because I'm not. She is very sick psychologically, and needs a tremendous amount of help and prayers!
We all need to take some time to relax and enjoy a movie every now and again. What better time to go and rewatch some of Johnny Depp's previous works?
Here's FIVE amazing Johnny Depp films that you can watch during the court and trial break!
1. What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) - PG-13
At first glance, you might expect this to be a fairly dumb or mediocre movie, but trust me when I tell you, DO NOT sleep on this! What's Eating Gilbert Grape is an extremely underrated film, and an instant cult classic with many laughs and great actors. These include Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio (Titanic), John C. Reilley (Step Brothers), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), and Juliette Lewis (From Dusk Till Dawn).
The story follows Mr. Depp's character Gilbert, as he helps in taking care of his extremely overweight mother who can't leave the house, and his mentally challenged brother (Leonardo DiCaprio). Gilbert works at a local grocery store, and has been having an affair with a married woman for quite some time. This eventually comes to a stop as a new girl (Juliette Lewis) and her grandmother pass by the small Iowa town, and end up breaking down and staying a while.
It amazes me that Leo DiCaprio never won an Academy Award for his amazing performace as Arnie Grape in this film - he was very convincling. He would've been the yougest actor to ever get an Oscar at the time!
Fun Fact: my Doctor was best friends with the writer - Peter Hedges - who wrote the book that the film was adapted from. #IowaNative
2. Dead Man (1995)- R
I'm gonna be honest and say that I only just watched this the other day with my older brother...and I was absolutely blown away with how hilarious Dead Man is! This movie had me cry laughing way too many times to count, and my mouth dropped to the floor in disbelief at a few unexpected scenes! This is a black-and-white western unlike any you or your grandfather has ever seen! It's got some insane cinematography, set pieces/atmosphere, and a very explosive and nerve shattering sound score that brings you back to the olden days. The Lone Ranger vibes were very much present, and I felt that this might've been some partial inspiration behind Johnny Depp's portrayal of Tonto years later.
Synopsis: After accidentally killing a man, William Blake (Johnny Depp) becomes an outlaw on the run with an Indian named Nobody (Gary Farmer). Being hunted by other outlaws, marshals, and gunmen, will William Blake make it on his journey to the spiritual world?
This is another phenomenal piece of cinema that feels like an instant classic! It saddens me that I'm just now discovering this hilarious thrill of a movie, and I'll definitely be recommending this for many years to come! We need more like this please! Dead Man has an even bigger all-star ensemble that includes Lance Henriksen (Aliens), John Hurt (Hellboy 2004), Crispin Glover (Back to the Future), Billy Bob Thorton (Sling Blade), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home), and musician Iggy Pop!
3. Sleepy Hollow (1999) - R
Based on the popular gothic tale written by Washington Irving in 1819 - The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - comes the story of Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) and the Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken), and directed by Tim Burton (Batman, Beetlejuice, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure).
I could have very easily placed any one of the plus eight films that Depp and Burton have worked on together, but I felt like this one was calling for the numero three spot. The other Depp/Burton works as of this moment, include Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows. The runner-ups for this position were either Alice in Wonderland or Dark Shadows, so you could swap this one out for a different movie if you'd like!
Sleepy Hollow is a fun period piece that perfectly encaptures the aesthetic and eeriness of 1799. The movie has great sets and a foggy/gloomy and dark atmosphere that adds to the overall tone, but also the mystery and legend of Sleepy Hollow. This is a decently freaky and gory flick, so if you're used to the big ear and ginormous nose Ichabod Crane, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place. Although it's a horror movie at heart, the film still has plenty of humor, romance, and fantasy that we can all enjoy and appreciate!
4. Rango (2011) - PG
A chameleon played by legendary actor Johnny Depp, is going through an identity crisis and finds himself the new sheriff of an old-west town called "Dirt." Role-playing at first, a mystery arises and many other crazy moments cause this lizard to become the hero of the story.
There's so much going on in this movie that I seriously have no idea where to start. If you've never seen Rango before, then you're in for an exciting treat! I believe it's a must see for everybody. This is another instant classic, and one that deserves to be savored and watched about every month. I personally love Rango and everything about this movie - It. Is. HILARIOUS!
I suppose the easiest way to descibe it, would be to say it's an animated western comedy that will leave you wanting more! If I'm remembering correctly, I believe I watched this two times back-to-back when I first ever saw it - yes, it is indeed THAT good!
Along with Mr. Depp, the cast also includes many greats such as Bill Nighy (Underworld), Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2), Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood), Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy), and the director himself, Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean).
Funny Movie Line: "I found a human spinal column in my fecal matter once..."
5. Public Enemies (2009) - R
During the Depression-era, notorious bank robber John Dillinger (played by Johnny Depp), becomes Public Enemy Number One by J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Cudrup). Trying to capture the evasive outlaw, Melvin Pervis (Christian Bale) is assigned and tasked with bringing Dillinger in dead or alive.
Coming in at two hours and twenty minutes, Public Enemies is a crime drama that takes us back to those days as a kid playing cops and robbers. Who doesn't love police chases, gangsters, and Tommy Guns am I right? This is another film that transports us to a time before us, but one where gangsters were running rampant and taking advantage of the war, and crumbling economy. It's been a while since I've last seen this epic, so I suppose I should put it in soon!
Public Enemies stars Mr. Depp, Christian Bale (The Dark Knight), Billy Cudrup (Watchmen), Marion Cotillard (Inception), Jason Clarke (Terminator Genisys), Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street), and Stephen Lang (Don't Breathe).
This movie is for anyone who loves films like Lawless, Gangster Squad, Live By Night, and The Departed.
Honorable Mentions:
Finding Neverland (2004) - PG
All five of the Pirates of the Caribbean films
Into the Woods (2014) - PG
Black Mass (2015) - R
