THINK TOGETHER.
Do you ever wish you had more money?
READ TOGETHER
Proverbs 18:11. A rich man's wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.
Have you ever heard the story of the Titanic? The Titanic was a super luxury liner ship built to sale from Britain to America. It was built by rich people for rich people. When the Titanic was built they said that it was unsinkable. You probably know what happened next. On its very first voyage it struck an iceberg and sank. The unimaginable happened.
The Titanic is just one example of what Solomon is talking about. The rich person thinks that their money keeps them safe forever. Like the Titanic they sink that they can't sink. But money can't protect us from everything, can it? Money can't make people love you. Money can't keep you from losing a loved one. Money can't buy you peace and happiness. Money can't prevent sickness or death. And most importantly, money can't buy you a place in Heaven with Jesus.
Yesterday's reading was from Proverbs 18:10. There Solomon says that the wise man runs into the tower of God. By faith we trust in Jesus and that is what protects us, not money, not stuff, not popularity, not good grades, not being athletic, or pretty, or funny. We can only imagine that those things make our life perfect, but they don't. In fact, chasing these things often only makes our life much worse. Stressful, petty, or prideful.
Choose Jesus instead. Let him be your strong city. He is not just in your imagination, he is real! He really died for you, and he really, really will save you if you trust in him.
Because of Jesus we are always safe in God's love.
With Jesus we can let our things just be things, and not our god.
DO SOMETHING TOGETHER
Look at pictures of the sunken Titanic together. What lessons do we learn from this tragic story? Jesus never sinks. Jesus is forever.
PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, you are my strength and my hope. Help me to always run to you. Amen.
