Sometimes it amazes me to see how things written years ago are spot on for the events of today.
What Charles Dickens wrote in his famous novel, A Tale Of Two Cities, sounds like he could have just written it."It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair."And even before Dickens, Bible writers wrote with both commentary and advice that would fit today. If they were sending us a message today, this is what they would say.The writer of Exodus said, "Do not spread false reports."Exodus 23:1The writer of Proverbs wrote,"Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues."Proverbs 10:19"Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down."Proverbs 26:20David said, "Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips."Psalm 141:3James was very direct when he said, "Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless."James 1:26Paul said, "For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder."2 Corinthians 12:20Paul gave this solid advice. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."Ephesians 4:29Jesus said, "A good person brings good things out of the good stored up in their heart, and an evil person brings evil things out of the evil stored up in their heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."Luke 6:45"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another!"John 13:34Some days there is just nothing more for me to say than "Amen!"
