The cover feature was our celebration of North Carolina's quadricentennial. Yes, 1984 was the 400th anniversary of the year Queen Elizabeth I granted a royal charter to Sir Walter Raleigh for land in our state (what was then Virginia). The UNC Center for Public Television (our name at the time) celebrated with a few programs to honor the event. The first and foremost was a series of one-minute docu-dramas produced by the UNC Center for Public Television in association of the National Association of Broadcasters. Called WE REMEMBER: NC 400th HISTORICAL MINUTES, these short pieces aired for several years, beginning in April 1984. As a personal aside, this was one of the first projects I worked on as a student crew member. I even appeared as an extra in one of them. | | | |
