Dear Diaspora Readers,
I was away during June and I wrote a poem in during my time away from the internet. The poem came to me on one of my silent walking days where I trudged my way through the Spanish countryside. I hope you enjoy this poem titled, A Pilgrim's Walk.
Buen Camino!
I say with a smile
One-hundred and seven kilometres,
My walk as el peregrina.
I head to Santiago
To stop the drifting with hope
Of crashing landing into something
Meaningful, beautiful and full of love.
Buen Camino!
The others say back,
With smiles full of light and understanding.
Shielding a hidden story behind them.
A story so strong it made us collide
As el peregrino, all heading to Santiago.
Some bags are big and heavy,
Others small and light.
But we all carry our bags with us.
Is it trauma? Pain? Joy? Celebration?
Each bag full of our belongings,
And our own story
That takes us to Santiago.
And before long it was there before my eyes,
Standing proudly in front of a mottled grey,
Clouds heavy with water but only drizzling,
Santiago de Compestela.
Adorned with spires and stone figures
Of people unbeknownst to me
And all it took was,
One-hundred and seven kilometres
To help me not sail adrift
For a moment in time.
I have made it to Santiago.
