THINK TOGETHER
Is there something that you are hoping will happen today (or tomorrow)?
READ TOGETHER
Hope is a very important thing. Hope means looking forward to something. You might be hoping to get a really great Christmas present this year. Or maybe your hoping for something bigger, like someone who is sick to get better, or for your mom or dad to find a job. Everyone is hoping for something. Without anything to hope for we would become super sad all the time.
We use the word hope a little bit differently than the Bible does though. We hope for things that we aren't sure will happen. "I hope my team wins the game today." "I hope I get a good grade on my math test." "I hope my friends can come over to play." Maybe these things will happen, or maybe they won't. But in the Bible the word hope is used to talk about things that WILL HAPPEN. But how can we know for sure what will happen? Because our hope is found in Jesus. He is our "living hope." That is what the Apostle Peter calls Jesus in his first letter:
1 Peter 1:3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
With Jesus we are never ever hopeless. Why? Because our Hope is alive! Jesus is alive! And we are alive with him.
We don't say I hope I get to Heaven. We say my hope is I WILL go to Heaven.
We don't say I hope I get to live with Jesus forever. We say my hope is that I WILL live with Jesus forever.
We don't say I hope Jesus is with me today. We say my hope is that Jesus is with me no matter what.
When your hope is a living person that loves you then you can be happy knowing that your Hope will always come true.
Because of Jesus we have a hope that will always come true.
With Jesus we can be happy in the hope of God's love for us no matter what.
