MIGROS AID IMPACT STORY: Farida#futureleadersFarida is the third of seven siblings. About 4 years ago, she and her family moved from Afghanistan where her father worked for the U.S. military. Farida, a 4th grader, is a budding engineer. She gets help with her ongoing education through Migros Aid!She loves building, drawing, and figuring out how things work. She always has a ready smile. An eager student, Farida's math skills are at grade level, and she is working to improve her reading skills.Migros Aid Impact Story: Prince#futureleadersPrince is a 7th grader who moved to the United States about six years ago, first moving to North Carolina before coming to Indianapolis. After fleeing war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his parents became refugees in Uganda where they lived in a refugee camp for nearly 20 years before gaining refugee status and being resettled to the United States. Prince is full of charm and is a kind young man. To know him is to love him. He lives with his parents and five siblings. Prince is working diligently in his new school this year. His principal chose him to help manage his school's sporting events. He gets tutored twice a week because he wants to keep his grades up. Prince loves soccer and card games. He is active in Migros Aid and especially loved going to a summer camp in 2023 where he got to ride a horse for the first time and do a zip line.
MIGROS AID IMPACT STORY: ROSE#futureleadersRose, a 4th grader, helps care for her 5 younger siblings each evening while her parents work. Her parents were originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo but they fled war there and settled in a refugee camp in Tanzania. When they were offered refugee status, they were resettled in Milwaukee in 2019 just a few months before the pandemic. They later moved to Indianapolis. Despite being in online school during her first couple years here, Rose has worked hard in school and takes her school work seriously. Rose enjoys reading, is very quick at math, and has a keen sense of humor. She brings her homework every week to Migros Aid Academy. When asked what she liked about Migros Aid Academy, she replied with a smile,"They teach us stuff."MIGROS AID IMPACT STORY: MAHAT#FutureLeadersMahat is a highly motivated 7th grader. At school, he is on the Student Council and has been chosen for other leadership roles by his principal. Mahat and his family moved to the U.S. from Kenya when he was in kindergarten. They fled their war torn home of Somalia and lived as refugees in Kenya for ten plus years. Mahat is curious about everything and always has dozens of questions to ask his tutors each week. He has great interpersonal skills and talks to everyone. He is working hard to keep his grades up in middle school.When asked, "Why do you enjoy coming to Migros Aid Academy?"He replied, "I can learn and get my homework done."
