| travsd Oct 6 | Thanks muchly to Lauren Milberger and Jesi Mullins, lovely cohosts of The Murphy Brown Podcast, for inviting me to participate in a special bonus episode of their show to talk about one of my favorite vaudeville vets, the great ventriloquist, radio and film star Edgar Bergen. It's not the stretch it may seem at first. Edgar was Candice Bergen's dad of course, and his stardom surely paved the way for hers, though he possessed NOTHING like her movie star looks, of course. It was a gas talking about Edgar with a couple of women who are indeed no slouches on the subject of show biz, but a little too young to remember Bergen (or his pals Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd) as a going concern. (I was a teenager when he passed away). Bergen is definitely on my short list of fave vaudevillians, and I think we had a pretty good conversation if I do say so myself! The show is available to listen to with Patreon membership; join the Murphy Brown Podcast Patreon right here. | | | |
