There's a special feeling that comes with performing, a bond that forms not just with your fellow musicians but with the very melodies you're singing. I've always cherished the joy of being able to tell stories through music, to touch hearts, and to bring a momentary pause to the busy lives of our listeners.
On the 23rd of June, I had the privilege of performing alongside the incredibly talented members of the Chloe Piano Trio - my husband George Todică on the piano, Jobine Siekman with her soulful cello, and the vibrant Maria Gîlicel on violin. To say that the Chloe Festival in Greenwich was a delightful experience would be an understatement. The ambience, the audience, and the music came together to create an evening that was both magical and memorable.
Among the pieces we performed, three excerpts stood out, and I wanted to share my personal reflections on each:
1. Meines Vaters Garten by Alma Mahler: This piece always evokes in me a deep sense of nostalgia, taking me to a tranquil garden where memories are etched in every corner. Alma Mahler's composition intricately interweaves the joys of the past with the tranquility of nature. As the notes flowed, I felt enveloped in a warm embrace, recalling fleeting moments of youth, laughter, and timeless beauty.
2. Night by Florence Price: Florence Price's compositions have a unique charm that speaks to the soul. "Night" is no different. This piece felt like a whispered secret, a journey through the mysteries of the night, each note sparkling like a distant star. The intimacy and serenity of the composition were beautifully complemented by the harmonies from George, Jobine, and Maria, taking us on a serene moonlit voyage.
3. Stille Stadt by Alma Mahler: The 'Quiet City' has a heartbeat, a rhythm that might be muted but is ever-present. This piece captured the essence of silent alleyways, hushed moments, and the serene underbelly of a bustling city. As I sang, I could envision a city at twilight, holding its breath before dawn breaks, and the melodies seemed to resonate with every hidden secret and whispered tale.
Sharing the stage with the Chloe Piano Trio was a heartfelt experience. Their passion, dedication, and sheer talent made the evening a musical feast, one that I'm sure will remain etched in the memories of all who were present.
To those of you who joined us, your warmth and appreciation mean the world to me. Music has this beautiful way of binding us together, of making us feel, dream, and reflect. And such nights make me ever so grateful to be a part of this magical world.
Until our next musical rendezvous, stay melodious and let your heart sing its own song.
