What was the name of the Hound of Music on PBS Kids?
Recently, I did a deeper dive into the realm of PBS Kids. While it's true the brand has offered many memorable series over the years, some have come and gone and now exist as little more than a footnote in the history of educational television. One such show ran briefly in late 2008 and centered on a dog with a love of music.
The title character was the titular Hound of Music, a good-natured, melody-obsessed canine who traveled around the country on a steam train named the Melody Hound Express. His companions were a cat named Delta and a human named Amy. (The musical hound and the cat were puppets, while Amy was a human played by Amy Miles.) The trio explored songs in different genres and music styles.
The children's series was inspired by John Feierabend's "First Steps in Music" curriculum for music educators and was designed to promote musical education for children ages 3–7. It was generally well-received but PBS lost the rights after it aired.
The dog in question was appropriately named after a renowned American ethnomusicologist. He was portrayed by puppeteer Peter Linz, whose work has been seen on PBS series like SESAME STREET, BETWEEN THE LIONS and THE PUZZLE PLACE.
So what was his name? What was the Hound of Music on the PBS Kids series bearing his name?
Think about it and I'll post the correct answer later.
